August 26, 2024
My wife and I recently stayed at a one-bedroom condo in Seagrove Beach Florida. The trip included just myself and my wife for a Monday through Friday stay in August of 2024. Packing for this trip would be simple. The plan was to spend as much time at the beach as possible and no cooking for the entire trip. For that, all we needed was swimsuits, tee shirts, a nice set of clothes to go eat out at night, beach chairs, umbrella, towels, radio, beach bag, sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, yeti cups and koozies. We planned on getting a few snacks and adult beverages once we got there.
Being from Louisiana, it’s always important to time your drive to not drive through Baton Rouge during peak traffic times. We left Lafayette around 8am for this six-and-a-half-hour drive to our destination. Check in time was for 4pm and I wanted to get there right at four so we could unpack and get some beach time at the best time of the day to be on the beach.
We stopped at Buc-ee’s at the Orange Beach expressway exit in Alabama and got most of our beach snacks there as well as gas and lunch. Since we ate lunch in the car and it did not take an hour like I had had figured into our timeline, we were ahead of schedule to get to our condo. With that in mind, I decided to take the scenic route through Navarre and Destin on HWY 98 and 30A to enjoy some coastal driving and not get to Seagrove Beach too much before check-in.
Once we got past Sandestin, we turned off HWY 98 onto HWY 30A for the remainder of our trip. We passed through Santa Rosa, Grayton, Seaside and reached Seagrove around 3:15pm. Still a little early we kept driving down to Rosemary Beach a few more miles down the road. The drive between Seaside and Rosemary was very nice and peaceful. The speed limit was 25 and 35 for the entire drive. There were lots of people on golfcarts that shared the road and plenty of bicyclists on the bike path on the side of the road. By the time we reached Rosemary and drove back to Seagrove it was time to check in.
We were booked in a beachfront low-rise complex called Dune Villas. There were about 24 units total and 12 of them were beachfront. We were in one of the beachfront ground floor units. There was a swimming pool for the complex to share. It looked very nice, but we did not use the pool at all.
The unit was perfect for what we needed. It was very clean, with nice furniture throughout and adapted to current trends. The bed was very comfortable, as was the sofa in the living room. We did not open the sofa bed. The shower pressure was a little on the weak side, but it got the job done. There was no tub in this unit. They had all the necessary starter supplies, such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, shampoo, washing detergents and dishwasher soap to get you going and that ended up being plenty for us for the week.
Two big sliding glass doors opened to the spacious patio with two chairs to sit and enjoy the ocean views. There was also a water hose to wash off any sand from the beach before entering the condo. From here the beach was just about 25 yards away! We went back and forth to the beach several times a day without even thinking about it. Not like a high rise where you have a long boardwalk and then must wait on elevators to get to your floor then walk down a long hall to get to your room.
There was not any beach service available through the management of the complex but there were beach service companies on both sides of the complex. We had brought our own for the simple fact that we are never ready to leave at 5pm when they pick up their beach chairs and umbrellas.
The beach was amazing. The water was crystal clear for almost the entire time except for one afternoon when a small storm passed through. Entering the water was very easy with a very gentle sloping beach that did not get very deep until you were about 50 yards in the water.
In the mornings coffee shops and cafes are plentiful. We had coffee at Turbo coffee and Beachy Bean Coffee Co. Beachy Bean was our favorite of the two. They had a very nice place to sit inside and outside overlooking Eastern Lake. I used their superfast Wi-Fi to get a little work done one morning. One morning we drove down to Rosemary to get Acai bowls at one of our favorite spots, Playa Bowl! We first tried them in Baton Rouge and have never been disappointed.
Our lunches mostly consisted of snacks or leftovers from dinner the night before. We just heated it in the oven and brought it down to the beach. The goal was to spend as much time at the beach as possible.
For dinner the first night we got there we wanted to grab something quick because we had to get a few groceries, so we went to Brozinni’s Pizzeria. We got each a 10’ pie and could only eat about half so we took the rest back to the condo for lunch the next day. The were very fast and it was very good. The price for one of their pizzas on the menu was reasonably priced at 13 dollars for a 10’ pizza, but if you build your own, it’s a little overpriced at around 3 bucks a topping!
The second night we decided to check out the food trucks we saw passing through Seaside. Once there we parked and walked around, we found The Shrimp Shack. We love lobster rolls and so this was an easy decision. The rolls were amazing, and it came with warm melted butter to pour over it. The bread was comparable to Canes toast that was cut in half and stuffed with lobster. The prices were market price and came out to 45 dollars a roll which is about what we paid in Martha’s Vineyard. It was better than the one we tried in Marthas Vineyard but still not as good as the one in Key West. I would definitely eat here again.
Seagrove Village Market was our next dinner spot. They had a little bit of everything on the menu here. We got grouper tacos and grilled shrimp tacos. It was good but they put just a little too much seasoning on the fish and shrimp. It was not that it was too hot, it was just overpowering. They didn’t need that much. We also had their hushpuppies which was very good. It was a lot of food and we had plenty for the next day.
On our last night we headed to Local Cantina Greenway Station. This was a cool Mexican restaurant with a bar and a salsa and chips bar. We always fill up on chips and salsa when we eat Mexican, so we ordered Queso and each a shrimp taco from the a la carte menu. Everything was good including the margaritas and the local beer.
On Friday morning, we woke up early, grabbed a coffee from our favorite spot and headed to the beach till 9:30 to get in the last bit of beach before check-out at 10am. After we packed up and checked out, we headed to the Perfect Pig for breakfast. The food here was amazing! After leaving breakfast, we drove to Rosemary for some shopping and then drove to Seaside for a quick picture at the post office and some more shopping before headed home.
This was my first time visiting this area of the Florida panhandle and it was better than I expected. August was a perfect time to visit once the kids were back in school. If anyone wants to visit this area or any other area along the gulf coast, send us a message, we would be glad to help plan your trip.
